How do I check backlinks?

Ok, I'm going to try and implement alot of the advice on this forum.

First things first.

How do I check the links to my website (backlinks)?

I figure I need to know how to do that for google, yahoo, etc.

Thanks.

Re: How do I check backlinks?

Google only shows a sample of backlinks not all of them.
Its impossible to do a first class link campaign just from the google links: command.

There are a number of irc bots that do the job or online tools too. Just google it!

Re: How do I check backlinks?

You will need to use this >> link:yourdomain.com in any search engine to check your recorded backlinks

Personally, I use yahoo to check all my website backlinks and MSN to check the websites who linked to me, it just show two pages from each website so it makes easier for you.

Re: How do I check backlinks?

You will find that Google doesn't show all the backlinks that it has indexed for you.  Don't worry, this is normal practice.  It may ommit some results due to lack of site relevancy, or uniqueness.

Also, they say Google only shows the backlinks with PR of at least 4. Is that true?

"How do I check the links to my website (backlinks)?"

Click "Advanced Search" in Google then type your domain name in the text field labeled "links".

forget checking in google using the link:domain command - it only shows a random selection as said in the posts above.

I use yahoo site explorer... go to yahoo.com and type linkdomain:www.yourdomaingoeshere.com

chances are if yahoo shows a page as a backlink, and that page is indexed in google it will be a google backlink too... (if you are really bothered you can check the google cache of the page that gives a backlink in yahoo by going to google and typing cache:www.webaddressofpagethatlinkstoyougoeshere.com... just copy and paste the url into google search box with cache: before it... - i take out the http:// but leave the www... if google has an updated cache, with your link on it you can probably take it as given that it gives you a backlink... nofollow tags aside!!!

Hope this helps,

Mike

Re: How do I check backlinks?

inside google webmaster tools is by far the most accurate these days, they show over double as links for us as yahoo, and no internal links like yahoo do either, and Google seem to update inside WMT every 2 weeks or so as well.

plug in joost de valks firefox extension and you can even see the link PR and anchor text on them.

Re: How do I check backlinks?

Hi friend

There is three Ways to checking Your website Backlinks.

First is like this   link:http://www.Mysite.com

Second is check your External links in Google webmasters Account

Third is Software for backlink checker like Backlinkwatch.com

So Google will not show all the backlinks for your site so keep checking in software or external links in google account

Thanks
Dinno

Re: How do I check backlinks?

I agree with mib regarding checking of backlinks. You may also use http://www.backlinkwatch.com/index.php to check all your backlinks with additional info like if the links have no follow attribute etc. However, Yahoo offers more reliable results and Google often doesn't show all the backlinks.
